There are some days which can define an era. The kind of monumental occasions that you will tell your grandchildren about one day and will finish off by saying "I was there" and the gleam in their eyes will tell you how proud of you they are. Today was such a day, and I am privileged enough to be able to say "I was there".

The day was bright and sunny, but with that autumnal nip in the air that reminds you that summer is a fading memory and that the cold white reality of winter is on it's way. A perfect day for Blood Bowl. Der Green Tide ran onto the pitch from behind the bushes (where they get changed after a fire burnt down their shed in mysterious circumstances) with a look of intent in their beady red eyes and why not, as they were up against their arch rivals the Wings of the Apache, a team of Halflings coached by the Arch Deviant SerenadeOfSorrows (which I suppose is a cool name if you are a 12 year old EMO).

Der Green Tide kicked off, and after some trading of blocks Yeruk Blacknail superbly blitzed the Halfling ball-carrier forcing a fumble which was eventually recovered by Blacknail himself. What should have been a straight-forward sprint to the line was made much more exciting when Blacknail tripped over his own laces on the one yard line, fumbling the ball into the end-zone. Poor coaching from SerenadeOfSorrows allowed Blacknail to get back to his feet, dodge two defenders and score the only touchdown of the first half. The overall design of the play and the way he gave SerenadeOfSorrows false hope is a credit to the tactical genius of the Great Gobbo.

The second half saw a rash of despicable fouls from the Apaches which reduced the Green Tide to six players, and the awful referees missed every single one. The new system of having all replays reviewed by the head office of the NAF in Altdorf was unable to be implemented after someone stole the crystal ball before the game kicked off. Eventually the Apache scored a fortunate touchdown which set up a tense finish. Most other coaches would have run out the clock and taken the draw but not the Great Gobbo who decided to bravely go for the win. Massive mis-fortune ended up with the Halflings having one last shot at the end-zone but the play was butchered by inept coaching.

As the sun sets over the stands here at the Badlands Community Swamp and the bodies are brushed away there is a feeling of justice in the air, that today something happened which makes the World a better place and that for the moment at least everything is right with the World.
