I've been playing Legend of Grimrock (trailer) which I bought for my son as part of the Humble Bundle 7. It is a homage to old school RPG games such as Eye of the Beholder (which, as a young'un, I never completed despite purchasing the guide books) but in glorious 3D, with deadly monsters around every corner and mind boggling puzzles that often rely on you spotting hidden switches.

It's hard. If you've gotten used to the Lego Star Wars esque absolute lack of challenge in modern games, you're going to be in for a nasty surprise if you play LoG. You can expect your first few parties to get only a few levels down although veterans of the genre might fare a bit better.

There's a couple of counter intuitive things that I've since discovered - the fact that dexterity does not contribute whatsoever to missile or thrown weapons. Ice bolt seems to be a really handy spell as it freezes enemies. Also splitting skill points across categories seems to be a big no-no; specializing is a must.

It's all about tactics when it comes to fighting, and all about attention to tiny details when it comes to puzzles - some of which are insanely hard and I'd be lying if I denied having refered to an online guide from time to time.

It is definitely the best game I've played in a long time - most modern games just don't appeal to me with their grinding.
