Rated 6. I pretty much agree with everything, from a different point of view of course.
My flings applied. They could easily get games with GF (even though sadly, most of the offers are from dorfs) but the nature of Ranked makes me too picky - except when I'm drunk.
I wouldn't accept a game against your Orcs on GF for instance, yet I'd probably enjoy the match if I make it to Smack round 2. Go figure...

Rated 5 - I agree, just docking a point 'cos you beat me in my only SMACK game so far ;-)

Well Kam, since you have something to gain (a potential title) there's more in it for you to risk your flings. Why would you want to get your team crippled fighting for nothing but glory!

I definitely consider myself pro-SMACK. I mainly restrict my tourney play to majors these days due to difficulty scheduling games, but I heartily approve of the format.
If I ever get to the work-from-home stage, I'll pick up on them again.

A long time ago, SMACKs used to get launched several time a day. I wish this time come again.

As someone who almost only play torney matches here i completly share your opinion. Rated 6!

There's a difference between a SMACK and a Scheduled SMACK. Chainsaw is mostly talking about the Scheduled ones, it seems.
The standard SMACKs were nice when I knew I had time for 2-3 games plus the lead time involved in organizing one.

Totally agree

I would love to see real SMACKs brought back as the insta tourney for both B and R teams.
It's no wonder the SMACKs died shortly after the userbase was split.

But seriously kids, stay off the SMACK...

Awesome post. As a regular SMACKer, I agree with everything you've said but especially points 2 and 4. That is exactly why I enter thses tourneys. They also give you goals to develop your team ranked. For example, getting a rookie team up to 1200ish or moving a team up from one division to another in time for the Wednesday's draw.
Thanks for the post, this probably the best way to raise awareness and ill up those tourney.
Sign up folks! I'll see you all on the pitch!

I think there are pros and cons to any KO tournament format. I won’t turn this into a hobby horse rant about KO tournaments (I’m sure I’m well documented on such things), but I think the biggest barrier, for me, in terms of playing in more SMACKs is simply time.
I don’t know what proportion of the user base I represent; but I’m colossally time poor these days. Whilst I would have laughed at a game a week back in the day, these days, that’s actually a tall order. I might be able to play one in every two days, then the other guy has a different schedule / is American, then you’re playing when you really don’t want to. The guy is late, and the whole experience of being held in the game becomes a chore rather than something fun, etc. etc.
If rounds were a fortnight, I’d consider playing in SMACKs. It might be that all of the stuff I indicated I’d not drag this down with would stop me, but I’d like to find out. 2 weeks will be loads too long for some, but perhaps we could cater for all?

I only played one smack, but did use 'rinse and repeat' Cpomb. =/

Was fun, and I'd certainly consider entering another with something more elfy. What I don't like too much is the TW bracketing; I'd like to see the ability to stow away cash for the duration, so that a TV 1400 team with 700k treasury isn't in the TW2000+ category.
Smacks are a very 'take all comers' type deal, where you can face anything [R] has to offer, rather than the TV bracket optima you get in the box.

I play the Scheduled smacks when I can, but would totally love it if the insta smacks made a comeback. Maybe someday.....

I love smacks. If a player dies in a tourney it feels meaningful and that he fell for the cause. If he dies in a normal game.. not so much.

Totally agree!
This week I took a break (and applied a new team for the next RRR, whenever that may be), but before I regularly joined the Scheduled SMACKS with my Monsters - usually every week since I always get knocked out in round one. :-D
I also agree with Purplegoo and the_Sage though: More time would be nice (it's always a bit of a gamble for me when I commit myself to one game a week for potentially three weeks) and I'm also a bit disappointed when I face a 1600k TV nicely trimmed skaven team that gets tons of inducements. Well, I'm not sure if exactly that did ever happen to me, but you get my point. :-)
Last week I played (and lost) against Sex Vicius in Ogreland... hell, that was a fun match (though it took more than 2.5 hours)!

By the way, I'm trolling this blog, but tonight 23:30 bbtime, SMACK legend game: flings versus Khemris. Last game versus those silly mummies: 5 deaths and, and 5 SI. Be there if you wanna see blood. :)

Ohhhh, sweet! Gonna spectate if I'm still up (which I am likely to be).
