To be honest I have not played WIF seriously since 5-th Ed. with Days of Decision 1. Still I considered it, but wo AI you have to find guys on the net with serious time on their hands.

I don't worry much about Africa, Scandinavia and the Americas, but what is the effect of having the same hex scale in Europe and Asia? Let me know when you find out!

C312: As you remember the Asian/Anerica map in the normal table top version was 2X scale to the Europe map. This was due to the size of those regions coupled with the fact that the majority of the action occurs on the Europe map.
With the new maps they made the entire world the same scale. Thus no more need to convert movement and so forth to Asian scale, remember all the units values were for use on the Europe map.
Now to be honest they did this just for the fun it all. The map is titanic and just fun to look at. Heck you could use it as a massive wallpaper for your game room.
My friend and I set the map up on the floor and I have to say it is so large it is almost unplayable when laid out in full effect. You have to split the maps so you can access the middle of the map to reach it.
The only real in game effect the same scale does is that it spreads out the china front totally. No more of just massive stacks of China VS Japan looking at each other. Also with the new scale there are a lot more terrain possibilities on the Asian map. China was just a wall of mountains on the normal map. Now with the increased size it can show valleys and such that weave its way through the massive mountain chain of central China.
Same goes if Japan wishes to move into Far East Russia or Siberia.

On a side note: Expanding out the Americas was totally just for fluff since it has 0 impact on the actual game.
BUT
There is talk on the Matrix forum that in the future they might work on America in flames...The alternate reality post WWII game that had Germany winning the war and invading North and South America in 1947. Thus that massive board for just the Americas would be used for full effect.

I wanted to vote more than six.
Good luck on finding people to play with.

Playing strategy games is something I always wanted to carry on playing when I was a kid. We used to hand draw huge continents and even use OS maps for some campaigns, making up rules and unit types etc.
Sadly time and life take you down different paths to what you desired as a kid. I am envious it looks amazing!!!
Maybe when the kids get a bit older I can get back into ita again :-)
