Jar Jar is the Dark Lord. It is known.

I saw on You Tube a deep video of Luke KILLING Jar Jar as he begged for his life.
I think it was You Tube.

I didn't like how the story has been rewrite from the expanded universe.
I played the rpg, even if it just for a while, against the Yuuzhan-Vong menace.
I managed to paint a temple room with the guts of a sith warrior, after he skillfully deflected countless blaster rays, with a modified slugthrower - "deflect this tasty lead"...
thrown some thermal detonators inside the local boss' room and running out like there's no tomorrow, only to discover the dastard already ran away...
sprinkled salts over open wounds of a sith-sided POW to make him talk ("y-you really... GET A DARK SIDE POINT, NOW!")...
...until a friggin GENIUS, our Wookie pilot, decided we could take on a Yuuzhan cruiser-equivalent with a mere corvette. We went into the next universe at the first snort of plasma. Tables flipped.
Nothing like that is going to happen in canon.
me sad.

Went yesterday, don't bother, Darth Jar Jar doesn't make an appearance. Hopefully in the next one. :D
(But really it was great, scenario's very simple, some dialogues wonky, but it doesn't matter, it's still great!

I'm the same age as you PS, and I remember being taken to the first movie when the neighbors were all getting in their car and I was out in the yard playing with one of their kids and they just took me along to the movie.
As a 7 year old, duh, loved it, got the toys, had fun.
However... as I aged, I completely lost touch/interest with Star Wars. I am a fantasy/sci fi fan though. Maybe not to the level some take it, but I'm a sucker for most things fantasy/sci fi, though I tend to prefer books to movies.
So what is it about Star Wars that draws you in? Because I'm done with it, I've been done with it for a long time. It's just not good, all the love I had for it I realized was pure nostalgia since even the first 3 movies are basically terrible. And the 2nd three were just... words don't really even describe what they were.

licker,
take everything people like about opera and amusement parks...then add special effects.
that's Star Wars.

1971!
@licker: appealing new age philosophy/humanism, clear good/evil dichotomy, Harrison Ford, space
Firefly should have been the new Star Wars but what can you do. Lucas gonna Lucas.

Agree with Licker here, all the anticipation for the Phantom Menace led to such a huge disappointment that I stopped going to theaters after that.
If anyone hasn't seen it, watch Plinkett's saucy review of the Menace, it does a good job of explaining why it was so terrible:

That being said, I'll probably go see the new Star Wars because of friends.

basically when an anticipated block buster series flops its first movie, I tend to just redbox any sequels.
JJ gets my ticket money this time. If its a stinker, then the rest will be seen on my home theater for $1.50 for the whole family.
If it's great, then I'll spring for theater tickets again for the sequel. that's my policy.
but yes, JJ has a reputation for making movies that are incredibly awesome while sucking at the same time. I think he purposely does some bad stuff just to tell the fanboys "I own this franchise now. I can do what I want with it."

watched the movie. they did a good job. will be back to buy theater tickets for the whole family for VIII.
