Have you ever tried Talisman?
Posted by Purplegoo on 2014-02-27 20:20:05
No Agricola, no wins. (
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-02-27 20:24:55
How much bloodbowl? How many hookers? How much coke?
Posted by PainState on 2014-02-27 20:31:47
Agricola huh?
Posted by Sammler_der_Seelen on 2014-02-27 20:44:27
risk 2210 is great!!
Posted by Purplegoo on 2014-02-27 20:46:53
Agricola > all other games. Blood Bowl included.
Do yourself and your group a favour, and never look back. I should point out Agricola is a tactical, next to luckless worker mechanic. If you like a bit of dice or luck, probably not for you. For those of us that crave strategy, however, it's board game crack.

I'd also point out myself and Mubo came very close to skipping out the last round of a Saturday TT tournament so we could get some hot Agricola action going.
It's a fantastic game.

hot
farmer
action!

I'm getting Caverna at the weekend. Agricola with Donkeys (and other stuff). I am teh sex.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-02-27 21:59:44
They made a board game of farmville? and u guys play it?
Posted by Purplegoo on 2014-02-27 22:01:07
It's exactly the same thing, except in Agricola you get clawpomb.
Posted by Cavetroll on 2014-02-27 22:09:25
This idea sounds awesome! I've heard good things about Agricola but havent' tried it. I can recommend Puerto Rico. But don't call the colonists or settlers, they are slaves.
Posted by pythrr on 2014-02-27 22:13:17
more seriously, Agricola is much cool.
i suck at it, as i just like making my farm look pretty, but it is fun
Posted by PainState on 2014-02-27 22:23:54
Well I will get me a copy and see how the guys like it BUT not this weekend.
Iam looking forward to my Rogue Trooper finding out who the traitor was and taking him down CPOMB style with grenades and so forth.
Can my Level 5 Witch Hunter survive the weekend of 8 quest? Will he die in some Sigmar forsaken dungeon under the old world?
Will that stupid wizard roll the obligatory 1 once we are ready to finally clear out the objective room?
Posted by Purplegoo on 2014-02-27 22:25:01
Puerto Rico is cool too. If you like PR, you're the right sort of nerd for Agricola.

I liked the supremacy board game! Talisman was also great..
Posted by PainState on 2014-02-27 22:33:02
On occasion we play the new Talisman Fantasy Flight edition which streamlines it a little and makes it faster.
I have the old 1ED and expansion and love the game BUT once you hit 4+ players that game could take 6+ hours to play.
Posted by PainState on 2014-02-27 22:39:22
For older gamer's like myself I love Fantasy Flight Games because they are bringing back the old GW board games from the 80's. Those old GW board games were a staple for me in high School.
Posted by PainState on 2014-02-27 22:40:34
In my mind when GW made the choice to ditch the board game division was the death of GW in my mind.
Posted by Verminardo on 2014-02-27 22:44:03
Well Settlers is somewhat pityful but you had me at "2inch cut T-Bone porter house steaks". :D
Posted by Verminardo on 2014-02-27 22:46:10
P.S.: The Battle Star Galactica Board Game is ideal for 5 players and it is incredibly good.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-02-27 23:03:58
I love 2 inch T-bone steaks like, good taste!
Posted by Ehlers on 2014-02-27 23:27:52
tigris and euphrates is only for 4 players, but it is one of the best board games I have played with my friends.
Might seem simple mechanics, but need more thinking and thinking though.

as great and opulent as this all sounds i cant help but feel convinced in my notion that something is wrong with you
Posted by Lorebass on 2014-02-28 03:55:08
can i come?
Posted by DaCoach on 2014-02-28 09:02:53
Nice one - think it is 2 years ago we managed to meet up for board-gaming, eating and drinking last. Game then was Game of Thrones, 1. ed. Fun, but not that balanced.
Posted by Verminardo on 2014-02-28 09:34:22
Oh btw I did something similar last weekend but we were close to 100 gamers on a hostel built into a castle (like, a real castle from the 12th century) and sadly we didn't have any T-Bone-Steaks. We did have large quantities of beer and liquor though. ;) My list of table top games included:
Card game: Blood Bowl Team Manager, yay! (first time)
Role-playing games: Danger Zone, Dread, Dust Devils, Forsooth! (I'm so indie^^)
I second the recommendation. ;)

I've never played Risk 2210. Got old Risk, new Risk, StarWars Risk (which is a bit sucky), LotR Risk (which is awesome) but never played, or even heard of 2210.
Been meaning to pick up Agricola for a while but my last 3 board game purchases were Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride Europe, Zombicide. It's getting close though :)
I have all of the new Talisman but it gets a bit unwieldy so we rarely use it all together. We have played with over 12 players. That takes HOURS and still no-one is close to winning.
The weekend sounds epic. Steak and games. Geek paradise.

Sounds good PainState!
I'll chime in on Agricola. It's a really good game (perhaps not very fun the first time but you'll want to play again right away to try and do better next time).
Posted by Anzelak on 2014-02-28 13:54:27
Purplegoo. I have as much love for Agricola as you do, but have you tried Caverna? It might just be, um, better.
Posted by Anzelak on 2014-02-28 13:54:53
Additionally: this is, obviously, a 6.
It sounds exactly like my planned stag do except you swap Texas for the Peak District.
Posted by Purplegoo on 2014-02-28 15:05:33
I have yet to try Caverna, I get it Sunday.
If it's better, wow.
Posted by DeZigma on 2014-02-28 17:55:24
I also like Titan very much.

PR>agricola
Posted by the_Sage on 2014-03-01 22:28:11
For me, it's Caylus. Similar mechanic to Agricola (no luck, worker distrubution resource management). However, it doesn't have the 'only-one-way-to-win' problem Agricola has (family expansion) and it handles the turn sequence better (by only changing the position of the player who pays for it, leaving the rest in their respective orders).
