I received an interesting PM from a fellow coach yesterday about my Tactical foul blog from many months ago. Interesting because it was many months ago I wrote it BUT to get to his thesis it was this. "I did not get it" because Ranked play is filled with low down foulers and that they use the dirty player button to win through death and carnage. Then the usual rant on fouling blah, blah and balh. Now this was the funny part. He said the vast majority of coaches followd the Paul Hicks view of Blood Bowl, BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Iam only posting on my Blog because it was a blog that started it but also to get it on the public record a further explanation of my theory of the "tactical" foul.

The key word is Tactic. WHICH IS DIFFRENT FROM STRATEGY.
Tactics are the means to achieve your strategic goal. SO bring up Paul Hicks in this example is a lack of understanding of these two seperate concepts.

EXAMPLE:
My Blood Sea Buccaneers
STRATEGY: Win as many games as poosible by scoring more than my opponeet to achieve glory and fame for Humanity and some day a Majors trophy.
Tactics(to achivee that strategic goal): Use my speed and limited guard to manover in such a way to achieve the goal of scoring. Fouling when neccesary to eliminate the opponeets best players and to use my AG5 thrower to his max ability by stretching the field of play to deny my opponeet from crowding the LOS.


Paul Hicks
Strategy: Kill, Maim, Hurt and destroy as many pixels as possible, his own included.
Tactic: Score as fast as possible to force the opponeet to make KO rolls in order to get more of his players back on the pitch for another shot at them. Hound the opponeet until he is ground into dust if an advantage is gained and proceed to beat the tar out of them. (Ok guys, WOW posted and 5 minutes later get 3 PM's all pissed off that I used Paul as an example and that I do not "understand" Paul. First off read his dang coaches BIO it says it all and backs up my views on Pauls strategy VS tactics example. Second Paul is a "big Boy" he can handle himself and does not need all you minnions out there defending his honor. From what I know of Paul and speaking to him he would probally laugh at all you blow hards PMing me trying to defend a "slight" that was never said.)


As you can see two totally diffrent views on Blood Bowl.
Bringing Paul into this discussion was not relevant because Paul has made it know that his view of "FUN" is to foul and kill, winning is allways fun, but the way for him to have fun is through the foul.

The ones you have to watch are all those "good" coaches who are very profiecent at the tactical foul. Because they will chew you a new "one" and score and win and dance on your carcass.
