Aww, poor PainState...do you want a cookie?
Posted by PainState on 2009-05-20 18:35:33
I would love a cookie and if you can spare it maybe a 12 pack of beer on the side.
I would like to add that you seem to think this is a "rant" or me lamenting my latest woes. It is not, for this is commonplace for me, it is as the title says, a guide to newbies on how to tank your CR.
Some might be reading to much into this blog.

Simpler method: retire all your elves, skaven, and any other competent team you might have. Start playing ogres, halflings, and gobbos. Don't refuse any challenge.

Great point maysrill...that is good advice. One that I also follow since I play none of the competant teams in ranked play and never turn down a challenge.

and now...
how *not* to tank your CR for newbies :)
Blow every other pick up. <-- if you're picking up the ball frequently enough that failing a pick up is a problem, then stop letting your ballcarrier get hit...
Dont catch or pass when you do have the chance. <-- run the ball more
Bonehead on the most critical plays. <-- stop relying on your big guys to save you during a critical play
Fail 40% of your GFI's. <-- stop GFI'ing so much
Double skull every other turn. <-- stop rolling double skulls :D
Fail 5 or 6 3+ with reroll dodges every game. And make sure its your first dodge of your turn. Dont want to make it look like you have had some success at dodging and then just got burned on your 4th dodge of the turn. <-- stop dodging so much if it's not necessary
easy peasy lemon squeezey

I agree with maysrill, just use Ogres..
When I used Ogres solely I went from 168CR -> Below 150CR.

Even easier way is to play as one of the elf teams and spend the first six turns of the game failing to pick up the ball. Make sure that your team starts off with a good chice of opponents, try chaos, chaos dwarfs, and khemri. For bonus points look for coaches who average more than 8 fouls a game so your team is in shape for its fith game when the ranking will start.

That's a good way to tank your CR for veterans too.
