I have made quite a bit of progress with the Norse Dwarfs since my last blog and am hopefully on target to complete the team in time for the NAF Championship.
Initially I had planned on making purple the main colour for the team like the Minnesota Vikings but my initial attempts all ended up too pink. So I settled on blue, white and silver with some gold details. It’s pretty similar to my other norse team but I that that really suits them, though I used less gold this time since it can be a little garish is used to excess.
All the players have been given fair coloured hair, various shades of brown, blonde and grey. Ginger will be kept for the were-slayers. I’m concerned that some positionals may get confused with others so have aimed to differentiate them all. The longbeards all have a single shoulder pad with a face on it and all aside from 1 have horned helms.
I painted them in 2 batches to help speed up the process and they have now all been pinned onto their bases. In this pic they just need numbers 8-14 painted on them, but that has been done since I took the photo.
To set the Blitzers apart from the linemen they have heads and 2 shoulder pads from Ironbreakers as well as gauntlets from human linemen. I painted their face masks and helmet edging gold to further distinguish them from the longbeards. They guy with his arm bearing the fist spike raised is probably my favourite so far.
This shows what the 2 throwers will look like, I’ve since glued them together and filled all gaps with greenstuff so am ready to start painting them now. 1 thrower is in the classic pointing and shouting pose, whilst the other is holding a ball made from 2 cannon shells and has a mask with targeting array.
For the 2 runners I am thinking of using some metal slayer models with hand swaps and shoulder pads. I’m still debating whether to add helmets to norse them up a bit of to leave as they are so they can be used as non-were slayers.
I have had a rethink in regards to the Deathroller/Snow Troll. The model I
was planning to use is lovely but a little too energetic for a Deathroller and I didn’t want to hack into it to add lots of mechanical parts. So I’ve bought
Boneripper and a daemon prince head and with a lot of greenstuff will turn that into a weird mechanical were beast complete with nasty sharp claws.
If I have the time I hope to add 2 stars to the team, after much deliberation I settled on Flint/Helmut and Grim/Wilhelm.
The Flint/Helmut is made from a dwarf lord, he was a little too heavily armoured so I have dremeled out his arms and legs and replaced those from some slayers. I’d already used his hands for a Bull centaur so the replacements are coming from slayers and the chainsaw is from a necromunda pit slave.
Grim/Wilhelm is going to be
Garagrim Ironfist with added fur, fangs and claws.
