Unfortunately my computer died on me a few weeks back and all attempts to fix it were unsuccessful. This was a mixed bag as there were less distractions from painting but also a lot of time wasted trying to fix it.
The team was completed on Monday and has been sent to Hawca ready for the GT this weekend. I've got a ton of in progress pics that I took before sending them off but they'll take a while to fix so it will just be the finished ones of the whole team.
I struggled for quite a while on how to pick a colour scheme for this team. I knew I wanted them to have green armour with bronze decoration and some areas of bright blue as a contrast. But the colour of their leggings was a real pain and none of my test schemes turned out well with all the bare flesh on display.
In the end I got inspiration from an elf team using the new GW kit that I saw on Reddit and went for black. I had feared it would overpower the rest of the colours but it made the green and blue stand out in contrast.
The linemen were given various shades of brown hair as this was a nice neutral colour.
I had found it difficult to make the catchers stand out from the linemen, their poses helped a lot but the linemen were rather dynamic compared to other races. I gave them blonde hair as yellow is the traditional colour for catchers.
I decided to use the face masks from the elf kit but did not want something so high tech and instead used greenstuff to make it look like more natural coverings.
The throwers both got more static poses and were holding the ball. This was mainly as the new kit comes with 4 arms holding or catching the ball so I had to use them somewhere. They were given white hair as that is thrower colour and these tend to be some of the older players on the team.
Their heads are from the eternal guard wood elves.
Wardancers are the stars of the team and part of what inspired me to do wood elves was how good the wild rider masks looked on the new kit. I wanted them to stand out so used a loin cloth from a harlequin to help position one in a leaping kick pose. The other used the blitzer legs and was given arms from humans to give him a bit more bite. Both of them were given orangey brown hair as red is associated with blitzers.

Big guys have always been my favourite position to paint as they tend to be the centrepiece of the team and have being larger have lots of extra detail. I didn't like the classic man shaped tree look and used inspiration from the other elf team I had done. The Avatar of Ynnead was used as the basis for this model, the idea being that this was a spirit that shifted between human and tree form.
I added bits from the tree-revenants and kurnoth hunters as well as some extra details in greenstuff. I had some difficulty getting the colouring right, my initial use of green skin was too close to the armour, but I think I should have made the magic parts lighter to make them more of a contrast to her grey skin.
She does stand out a bit from the team as her kit is a bit too elaborate. The idea was to have Willow as a bridge between the humans and tree spirit but sadly I ran out of time. She is built and part painted so I may finish her at some stage.
Jordell is one of the stars on my to do list and I had wanted to do him for a while. I'd had the model for a while, a conversion based on the old warhammer quest wardancer with dark eldar and harlequin parts.
He's a little smaller than the rest of the team and doesn't quite fit their style, but that is fine with him being a star and a temporary hire. I didn't want him to be stood up by the rest of the team though so really went to town with his paint job.
Using normal gold for his decorations didn't look that good and instead NMM gold was used. I also added some blue streaks to his hair as it suited his 80's aesthetic. His right leg had a harlequin style diamond pattern painted on it. I was quite nervous of this as painting geometric shapes is tricky and highlighting them even worse. But these turned out really well with neat lines and subtle shading in the white diamonds. I also added some blue celtic style spirals to his other leg that you can't see in this pic. All the player numbers were painted using this method too.
Odd the part of him I am most proud of is the ribbon coming from his belt, highlighting something like this is a big challenge as it is flat and smooth. I am super proud of it but likely no one else will notice.
One unfortunate issue is that I painted him on a different base and when adding him to the new one the glue was not wanting to stick. So he's leaning back too much, which I would have changed if I'd had the time.
Cutting out and sanding flagstones for the skaven base last year took a whole week. With time being short I wanted to avoid that and just used this technique for the NAF logo. I painted on some cracks and chips as well as a couple of celtic patterns. Again time was my enemy and I didn't get to do everything I wanted with the logo. If I'd had the time the logo would have had a wider border and there would be a celtic knot painted all the way round with lots more decorations on the base. The idea being it was an ancient heavily decorated stone.
The rest of the base was a mixture of different types of flock.
