The normal players have all been built, that was the easy part, a far tougher prospect is all the gap filling and extra sculpting I need to do. This is the most difficult and time consuming part of converting, but it does make a big difference. Sadly if done well the conversion will be very subtle and not all that noticeable. I spent a week filling in all the wounds and gaps on the linemen as well as sculpting straps for their knee and elbow pads, but they’d barely look any different in a photo.
I’ve undercoated them all and am ready to start painting once I can decide on a colour scheme.
The catchers have been fully assembled now and the other 2 added. I have tried to model them all in dynamic poses either jumping or running to catch the ball. In the end I went for a single shoulder pad on their left side and the only other armour they got was the small forearm guards I had intended for the blitzers originally. The neck ruff and loin cloth will give me some extra bits to paint up in the team colours. They have been undercoated and are ready to start being painted too.

The “Froxigor” is made from a broodlord with a tail taken from a dragon ogre. I have added a loin cloth from an ork nob and his shoulder pads are also from 40K orks but this time from flash gitz. I am thinking of giving him at least 1 knee pad, possibly a second. He also gets the same bulgy eyes as the rest of the team.
As this is a finecast model there are lots of air bubbles to fill and he’s missing some toes that I will have to sculpt. I’m also thinking of altering some of his body as he does look a bit too alien. Maybe filling in the vents on his legs and arms and softening the curves on his rib cage.

This pic shows the final changes to the blitzers. If you look closely you may be able to see that gaps have been filled, straps added to their arm and leg guards and the loin cloth extended round their waists. More obvious is the addition of a helmet and topknot along with filling in the gaps around their noses.

With the linemen all built it is time to start work on the colour scheme. I have already got a good strong mid-green picked out for the skin and found it very enjoyable to paint with when doing the savage orc team last year. It is important that a good strong skin colour is used as even with all the armour and equipment I have added the models are still mostly unclothed.
I see their equipment as split into 4 parts, the clothing (loin cloths and ruffs), armour (shoulder, knee, elbow pads), straps and metal bits. The first test model has blue armour with silver metal parts and I’d go for black or dark brown straps. I’ve added white edging to his armour for extra decoration and would pain clothing white too.

The next test scheme switches red for blue, leaving the other colours the same. I have also altered the skin colour, adding yellow to the mix. I am thinking of using this shade on the catchers, the lighter green to further suggest they are weaker and more vulnerable than the rest of the team. The other scheme adds a gold border to the armour, I am less keen on that one and am favouring white or silver instead. A yellow border might also work as it would be a bit brighter.
Another option would be to go NAF colours with red armour, black edging and white clothing, maybe even having striped clothing/armour.
This scheme has a change in skin colour as well, a darker green that would be used on the blitzers to make them more intimidating. I think I made it a bit too dark and will probably go for a less stark change, maybe using this shade on the Krox.

For this guy I went back to the mid-green colour scheme as I like that best. I was also concerned that the changes for catchers and blitzers was a little drastic. I want the 3 positions to remain distinct but it to be obvious that they are all still slann.
This guy got a pale belly, though I may extend it to under the chin to match the colouring of real frogs. I also changed the colour scheme, giving him yellow armour with black edging and silver metal bits.
