The goblins are nearing completion, both trolls have been finished and the secret weapons stars. One troll has been painted with a clown face in keeping with a sizable proportion of the rest of the team whilst the other has been painted as the ringmasters. He’s probably not the best choice for that role as trolls aren’t renowned for their articulacy, but I don’t think anyone is going to argue with him.
The stars have been finished as well, 3 of them got clown make up too as I like making stars fit the theme of the rest of the team. These GW stars are some of the few 3rd edition models that still stand up in terms of quality. That was a rather weak period in terms of GW sculpting and I feel they actually went backwards. Mind you the 4th and 5tg edition range was very inconsistent with some of the best (Zara, Ramtut and the human team) right through to the worst (Griff 2.0, Hubris and Jordell 2.0).
I’m not quite done though as Wilf has asked me to make a turn, score and re-roll markers. For the turn and score marker I am going to use 2 goblins doom divers I had leftover from many years ago as part of a wacky conversion. One will be standing on a see-saw with the other jumping off a podium to catapult him into the air.
For the re-rolls I am going to scratch build 4 test your strength machines and the 5th will be a goblin with hammer who can be used as a leader re-roll or just the last one. The goblins I bought were badly painted so I’m stripping them and making the machine is taking a while. In the meantime I have 3 other teams I am working on.
The Pestigors for the nurgle team are all done now, the team will have green skin, with purple and black armour and the metal bits will be rusty silver. My initial idea was too dark and bland so I decided to add 1 brighter colour. I’ve been experimenting with test colour schemes. The first models are still in progress so pics to follow. Now I’ve got that sorted I can power through the team, I started them almost a year ago but other things kept coming up.
I’m painting up the Imperial fligs for Topper, they are all cleaned up and ready to go so it’s just a case of deciding on the colour scheme. In addition to them I’m painting up the Roxanna conversion I did and Morg. I did have the original Morg model, but thought he was a bit small and puny compared to modern day big guys. To fix that I’ve combined him with bits from the plastic Ogres I’m working on, he still needs a few extra details added such as a strap for his shoulder pad and extra decorations round his belt.
I’ve also made a lot of progress with the Dark Elf team I’m doing for JanMattys.
The linemen have bodies from the new dark elf spearmen, legs from corsairs, heads from dark riders and arms from shadow warriors. There will be 8 in total but I’m still working on the last 2.
A big concern of mine was that the blitzers and linemen would look too similar, the other positions were a lot more well defined due to having AV7. So I went with slightly more elaborate and heavier looking armour on them. They are made from the torsos of Cold One Riders with arms and heads from Black Guard and legs from Corsairs. I like to have a give my teams a captain, so one blitzer has a bare head from the cold one cavalry.
The witches were just the standard models with daggers chopped off and the bases trimmed down. I’d already bought the boxed set as the models were so cool and had a lot of conversion potential. They are already in very dynamic poses so I didn’t see any need to convert them.
The Assassin is a the only metal model in the team, he’s a Dark Elf shade with mask added using greenstuff and his hands swapped with those of dagger wielding witches. I prefer him holding the daggers downwards as they are better concealed that way and it looks more sinister to me.
The Runner is also AV7 so gets less armour. He has a torso of a wood elf wild rider, legs from an old dark eldar warrior and head from a corsair. The arms are a little puny so I may swap them for those of a dark eldar and am looking to see if I can add a football held against his left hip swapped in for the dagger hand. I still need to add a shoulder pad and tone down the leafy parts of his torso.
