Pigstar's skaven are now complete, sadly I had to varnish them before taking the pics as i was worried about getting them chipped so that always loses a little detail and makes photos trickier.
I have kept the grubby theme of them with the dirty yellow armour and the gutter runners cloaks have been drybrushed brown to make them look a bit dirty.
I'm really please with how the muscles of the Rat Ogres chest and legs turned out, especially from the front. It took a while to get the skin colour right, quite a few highlights then washes and re-highlights but the effort was worth it.
I am in the process of taking individual pics for the player pics and will add them when they are finished but won't bother with any duplicate models. Must do them for the Wood Elves too.
I have some slightly better quality pictures this time. Since they are skaven i am using a slightly different painting technique to give them a dirty feel but without making a messy paint job. The GW washes have been really useful for this especially on the yellow bits and they have needed little highting at all. Originally i tried to blend them to a bright yellow but it just didn't look right so i used the foundation one and a quick highlight and then gave them a wash with very pleasing results.
The player numbers have been given ragged edges as i don't see skaven taking the time to paint on nice neat ones and the bases have loose stones and bits of bone or armour to represent the poor state of their pitch.
I think i was asked in a previous blog where i got the mutant bits from. Aside from the horns they are from the chaos spawn which i bought to make claws for the Snow Troll.
The mutant with the interchangable arms was originally going to share limbs with the rat Ogre with the RO's arm being a big hand. Sadly i think metal would chip too easily and th bits wouldn't quite match, it's a shame as the RO would suit tents or claw more than a lino. If i ever do a chaos team i need to get smaller magnets so i can do a full selection of mutations.
*Edit* Skaven all combined to 1 blog.
All models (excluding the rat man with the ball in his tail) (C) GW and are painted by Ross Leckie
